They Ruined Kool-Aid Man

Look at what they did to Kool-Aid man. He started out as a giant jug of sugar water, busting through walls and letting you drink out of him, a seemingly never-ending supply of flavorful fun. Flash forward to today and his liquid stomach is stapled. How the hell are we supposed to have an all-afternoon sugar high off that teacup? And look what they did to his clothes. Instead of fruity nudity, fig leaves. And look how they foreshortened him to emphasize the fruit and berries in his hands. So now he's tiny and modest and healthy. And he is carrying a jug of himself? Now tell me that is not wrong.

Sure enough, if you go to the official Kool-Aid Man site, he's wearing pants in every image.

A day in the park

Wow, I don't know about you but this last weekend for me was overly busy. I decided to have my ankle chain at the station unlocked for a few days and take my one designated weekend pass for the year. You would think being there three years would grant me more time off...nope! :-)

My wife and I decided to celebrate our son's first birthday by taking him on a whirlwind of different places for the holiday weekend.

DAY #1 --
1. The Denver Zoo - Now none of us had ever been to the Denver Zoo so to say the least it was an adventure. Granted, it was insanely hot but still very fun. I have never seen our son so inrigued over thigns like he was at the zoo. We spent alot of time at the penquins so he could just stand there and watch them under the water swimming. His eyes were completely fixated! It was amazing! He also couldn't leave without a handful of little wild animal figurines...or as wwe are calliong it now "Bob's Mini Safari".

2. Dinner at Bubba Gump ---- My wife and I thought this would be fun for us since the zoo was mostly about him. Now, with all of his animals in tow and placed on the table like an african jungle. The seafood feast began. I had the sampler which was absolutley perfect. It had a little of everything from tempure, broiled, fried, and coconut...yummy! Then my wife orders a hamburger? WHAT?! Is that wrong or is it just me?

3. A stroll on the 16th Street Mall - Since a tough day at the zoo and dinner the lil man was out cold! We thought we would stroll up a few blocks and check out the mall. Granted we did a little shopping but the store we like looking at is now gone...Virgin Mega...talk about a huge disapointment. We also checked out the Hard Rock Cafe. Not thunder, rain, yelling of street vendors and patrons could wake him up but two steps into the HRC he's wide awake and not happy...so back to the car we go. No more did we get the car and the boy is back asleep.

DAY 2 -- (Not that one wasn't exausting enough for him)

1. The Butterfly Pavillion - In one word AWESOME! From bugs and spiders to a complete habitat full of Butterflies..They are everywhere in every color imaginable and in just about every size you can think of. His little eyes were here then over there then up above...we thought the boy was going to be cross eyed from watching them. It was quite a site. One landed on his head and he just seemed confused as to say why is this thing on me. if you get a chance to check it out DO IT! Cheap, easy to get to and amazing.

2. Denver Aquarium - Now we were very careful not to overload him too much...wait too late! He got in the door and became completely fixated. After gazing into a few tanks he became slightly fried. I guess between the butterflies and fish he lost his mind. So to say the least we didnt stay long.

DAY #3 - We rested....and mush desereved. I think our son slept literally all day. I still can't believe that some of the news channels or at least the ones we had in our hotel are still running non stop Michael Jackson coverage? Is it that slow of a news time?

I will try to pull some pictures off of our camera from the weekend, and trust me some are quite priceless.

The madness known as Springsspree is finally over....ahh what a relief. We had just about everything going on that you really could including stick horse racing, putt putt golf, bowling, the mysterious Cat Man and trusty sidekick Fur Ball, line dancing lessons, two country concerts, Bryan in a tie dyed onesie, hamster ball racing, rockwall climbing, and the Enigma. And yes all of that was crammed into two days in Memorial Park. Whew!

JIM WEST ARRESTED?

This weekend at Territory Days our afternoon host Jim West finally was arrested for along standing warrant of "killing in the ratings".

He was apprehended at the Cat Country tent about 12:45p by two heavily armed officers who showed no mercy getting him into custody. Listeners, fans, and Cat staff stood in awe and wished for the use of excessive force.
Then we all found out that it was for charity and Bryan, Rene and I stood speechless and hung our heads in disapointment.

Getting WILD?

This last weekend kicked off with a bang with the "Wild Wild West Fest" on the streets of the Union Avenue historic district in Pueblo. Now when I drove up to it on Friday night I really didn't expect much out of it...and to my suprise it went on for blocks and then completely took over the riverwalk as a whole. It was awesome..theys eems to have everything you could think of down there from 3 live entertainment stages, 2 days of championship bullriding, countless places to get your grub on, bullriders walking the streets, the ring of honor ceremonies, and the very cool PBR fan zone.

They have already announced dates for next year and I can honestly tell you that I can't wait. I had a blast!

It was also my very first time that I have actually gone to a bullriding event...I know it seems hard to believe right. I kinda knew what to expect but I was very impressed by the whole excitement element of the whole thing. It was more rock n roll arena show than the hum drum rodeo feel that I guess I expected. I had a great time and then went back for more on the second night...and I don't think I will be missing one. I'M HOOKED NOW!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (News) -

Whoever ransacked the Colorado Springs home of Suzanna Clarke not only took necklaces and a shotgun but something she and her husband valued much more.

Clarke says her husband's cross necklace and her own angel necklace were stolen Wednesday. She says the necklaces hold the ashes of their 45-year-old daughter, Debra Edwards, who was killed when a man driving a stolen car ran a red light and crashed into her vehicle four years ago.
Police Sgt. Dave Gilman says the thief probably entered the home through an unlocked back door. He says so far no one has been arrested. Police told Clarke they would monitor sales to pawn shops.

After several weeks of expectation of a great show it was not let down at all. It was alot better than I thought it would be. The crowd was huge and seemed to know even the obscure album cuts off of his new CD 'Carolina" so I didn't seem like the only freakish fan that knew everything that he has put out.

"This is how it actually looked," he says. As I sit at home last night after I got off the air I finally saw the trailer everyone seems to talking about, Crank 2: High Voltage. Now will I ever the first one more than likely not, but this movie has somewhat peeked my interest. Why I have no idea..the premise looks so stupid I think I might just truely enjoy it. This is not my kind of movie as I am one who gravitates to ones like "Role Models", "Knocked Up", or anything that Kevin Smith lends his name to.

But here is the glitch I want to see this movie but I am torn for two reasons

1. I think my wife will go see it with me but with strings attached if she sits through this I will have to sit through the cinematic masterpiece starring Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus..the Hannah Montana movie.

Last Night at the Carey-On

Last night we did a concert at Carey-On-Saloon with Adam Gregory (not the one from 90210) for singles looking to "match up". Now the Carey-On is a nice intimate venue to see a concert compared to the big box arenas or other clubs around the area. No matter where you were you had a perfect view of the stage and hear everything even if someone was chattin next to you. I have never seen Adam prior to this and was quite impressed as I am with most acts that can pull off an acoustic session.

He did several songs off of his forthcoming cd and some covers as well ranging from Merle to Mellencamp. Now I took some pictures and video of the show which you can find here in case you missed the show.

What No Big Kenny?

While I was actually in the office and talking to Alisha she mentioned that the new John Rich cd came in and if I wanted one she had one for me. So not really being a fan of his prior solo work or Big & Rich I hesitated but took one.

After having it sit in my car for a few days I thought whats the worst that can happen I give it back and say YUCK? So, being overly skeptical I popped it in and hoped for the best.

Now just like every cd it has it's ups and downs. But to be honest the songwriting is not that bad. It seems when he gets away from Big Kenny his songwriting improves and the quality of music improves as well. I didn't even see Big Kenny is the credits anywhere. Out of 11 songs I would say that 8-9 of them are very good and one very overly depressing and somber.

Now his cd does one song that screams kitche and gimmick very similiar to almost anything ever put out on a Big and Rich Cd but honestly I expected that for the entire disc not just one song so that is definitely a plus as that crap gets old quick! But the song as a whole entitled "Everybody wants to be me" is basically true is to every sense of the title..and quite humorous.

John Rich is definitely proving himself to be someone outside the basic Nashville sound and that he can shine on his own both in songwriting and vocal talents. Now dont get me wrong the album is not perfect and something about it quite disurbs me but I cant quite put my finger on it...i'm sure i'll figure it out in time as I spend more time with it. But if you are an early Lonestar fan (yes he was the lead singer once upon a time), a Big and Rich fan, or have expierenced the other John Rich solo project....you might want to listen to it first online somewhere before you pick it up....I have a feeling you may be on the fence about this one as I was at first.

The 27-year-old Spears posed for photos with the children on Saturday.
She's also donating $100,000 to the Big Apple Circus Clown Care program, which brings clowns to young hospital patients.

Spears played at the American Airlines Arena in Miami as part of her "Circus" tour.
The tour to support her hit album of the same name kicked off last week before a nearly sold-out crowd in New Orleans.

Woman’s boyfriend hid it in milkshake to propose; happily, the crisis passed

A lot of guys try to come up with proposal scenarios that their girlfriends will remember forever. So give Reed Harris credit for accomplishing that goal — even if it turned out to be in don’t-try-this-at-home fashion.

The idea was a variation on a common theme: Put the ring in a drink and let his beloved discover it. Harris did his part, hiding the ring in a Wendy’s Frosty milkshake. But, as he and his girlfriend, Kaitlin Whipple, told TODAY’s Matt Lauer Monday in New York, she ate the entire shake and never found the ring.

Harris and Whipple had attended an LDS Institute class last Tuesday at San Juan College in Farmington, N.M., where they live. Afterward, they and a group of friends went to a Wendy’s for Frosties. The friends were in on his plans and recorded what they expected to be a heartwarming proposal on a cell phone video camera.

Ready, set ... gulp!

But the other women in the group, eager to hurry the discovery process, made the mistake of challenging Whipple to a race. Being rather competitive, she grabbed a spoon and wolfed down the entire contents of the cup. “I felt nothing at all,” she told Lauer. “I was racing my friends, so there was no way I was going to lose that competition.” Harris checked everyone’s cups and didn’t find the ring — gulp! This was not in the script. The video shows him hugging her and whispering in her ear that she had eaten her engagement ring.

Whipple’s gut reaction was disbelief, the story being harder to swallow than the ring.
“I thought he was joking,” she told Lauer. “I couldn’t believe that I swallowed the ring. I kept waiting for him to get down and propose.”

Harris couldn’t believe it either. “It’s not that small a ring,” he told Lauer, a bit defensively.
X-ray marks the spotInstead of marriage, Harris proposed a trip to the local hospital for X-rays. It was only when the technician handed her an image showing the ring inside her that Whipple accepted the truth.

Because Kaitllin Whipple had swallowed the engagement ring, Reed Harris proposed to her with an X-ray showing it inside her. From the hospital, they went to Harris’ place, where one of their friends pointed out that Harris still hadn’t proposed. So, with X-ray image of the ring in hand, he got down on bended knee and asked for Whipple’s hand in holy matrimony. A friend captured the tender moment in a picture that shows him looking at the camera with a sheepish grin and Whipple sitting with a big smile on the couch — holding the X-ray of her ring.
Ever the gentleman, Harris took the blame for the accident. He had been waiting for the ring to arrive, and had planned to propose Wednesday night during a more formal date at a fancy restaurant. Whipple suspected that he set up the Wednesday dinner date to propose to her.
But Harris told Lauer that when the ring finally arrived on Tuesday, he was so excited he couldn’t make himself wait another day. So he hatched the Frosty plan on the spot.
‘This too shall pass’The next day — Wednesday — Whipple posted the whole story along with pictures and video on her blog, Krazy Kaitlin. One of the pictures shows her posing with the X-ray along with a bag of prunes and a box of high-fiber breakfast cereal. Her friends, she said, assured her that “this too shall pass.”

On Thursday, she had happy news to report on her blog: “It arrived this morning and I have never been so excited about my bodily functions. Haha. It’s so beautiful and I love it. It was definitely well worth the wait.” After getting it cleaned, Whipple finally slipped the elusive ring on her finger and posted another photo.

All’s well that ends well: Reed and Harris got flown to New York to show their elusive engagement ring on TODAY. But that wasn’t the end of the story. A Salt Lake City television station got wind of the tale and interviewed the couple. Then TODAY called and flew them to Houston to appear on the weekend edition of the show Sunday, then to New York to make two more appearances Monday. “When I woke up this morning I never thought I’d be getting a call from NBC!” Kaitlin wrote Saturday. “I look forward to it but am scared to death at the same time. National television WOW!” Sunday’s blog entry is headlined “Kaitlin & Reed are in NYC!!”
The couple haven’t set a date for their wedding, but have narrowed it down to either the last weekend in May or the first weekend in June. As for the honeymoon, Whipple wrote on her blog that she hopes more surprises are in store: “Maybe we'll get a cool honeymoon out of this crazy engagement story somewhere down the road ... we can only hope :)”

The stunning announcement that a California woman had given birth to eight babies, octuplets, was greeted warmly in some circles. The birthing doctors were all smiles and the media was hyping the "human interest" part of the story. Eight babies! Wow!

But behind the high-fives lies a very troubling situation. This may be child abuse at the highest level.

Here are the facts: The mother, Nadya Suleman, is a 33-year-old single mom already raising six young children in the small home of her parents. Nadya is a health care worker who, according to her mother, became pregnant with all the children through in-vitro fertilization.

But six was not enough for Nadya, so last spring she allowed multiple embryos to be implanted in her womb and, subsequently, the octuplets were born on January 26th.

In Great Britain, Nadya and her doctor would be under arrest. There, the law permits only two embryo implants at a time. But in California, there are no rules at all. Fertility clinics and the doctors who make big money from them can do anything they want.

So, now, Nadya has eight new babies, all of whom weigh less than three pounds. The littlest is about a pound and a half. Doctors say there is a strong likelihood that some, if not all, of the babies will experience major health problems growing up.

When the babies finally leave the hospital in suburban Los Angeles, they will be taken to a three bedroom house in Whittier, California. Seventeen human beings will be living in that house. Eight babies will have to be fed, washed, and cared for around the clock almost simultaneously.

Who will pay for that? Chances are the taxpayers. Nadya has little money and her parents filed for bankruptcy. By the way, the hospital bill for the octuplets and mom is estimated to be around $1.3 million.

But Nadya seems to have a plan. She has hired a "spokesperson," a woman named Joann Killeen. Joann has been running around various TV shows telling the world what a great person and mother Nadya is, and what a joy she is to be around. When asked if the mother of the year wants major money to tell her story, Ms. Killeen dodges and weaves.

This is child abuse of the worst kind and few seem to care. The taxpayers will wind up paying for much of Nadya's irresponsibility, and the fourteen children will pay an enormous price... just wait and see.

Meantime, a callous media and a largely apathetic state medical system will watch to see whether it will be Oprah or Barbara or Katie to give the babies their first TV starring roles.

America is a great country. This is the worst of it.

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

My wife thinks that I am on the concert circuit or I'm a loader for all of the Grizzly Rose concert series. She has a good inclination to think that since I have been there 3 times in about five days. First it was Rodney Atkins...then Jason Michael Carroll, and finally Jimmy Wayne.

This is actually one show that I was really looking forward to just because I saw him acoustic at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame a few months a go and this time around he had a full band. The last show was kind of a country edition of VH1 Storytellers so I wanted to see if he had the entertainer chops to pull of the full show. And normally when I really look forward to something i walk away and go wow what was I thinking or pondering that the show was good but didn't meet my internal expectation. But this time I was quite impressed in the show and his showmanship.

His vocals were absolutely flawless and he has one of the best fiddle and bass players of recent memory. Those guys can play! Jimmy did most of his hits between his two CD releases. I was quite impressed that he kept the Storytelling element in for the full show and at the last show learned alot about his background and this one I found out even more. And knowing that I very much respect him as a person and a quality country artist.

So you if you have a chance to check him out no matter the price may it be acoustic or full band. DO IT. You will not be disappointed. And I know I say that about alot of shows but this one I mean it. As you will see with the videos above that somehow ended up on my camera ....(hmmmm..I have no idea how : ) ) I hope he is around for a long time!

Sit UBU Sit...Good Dog!

Last night I finally fufilled a promise to my wife to go see one of her favorite books come to life on the big screen "Marley and Me". Both of us were overly skeptical that it would actually be any good. Me because...well it's a borderline chick flick and for her to see if it was true to the book.

As it began I was sitting in the theatre saying what have I done besides spending two hours with the likes of a dog and Jennifer Anniston. As it started out a little slow for my taste. But the one thing you can not deny if you have a dog is that Marley is just like every other dog at one time or another...probably just worse. As I was sitting there watching the story unfold I thought this is our life! From the petty little fight picking about this and that to the discussions of getting rid of the dog for the kids sake.

Watching the story unfold I couldn't help but to think of our little furry beast at home. No matter how many times my wife and I discuss what to do with her during the day or the possibility of getting rid of her. I don't think I would have the heart to do it as she is a member of the family through the good, bad, and several emergency vet visits. Now I know exactly how John Grogan felt after the repeated requests to get rid of Marley.

But overall it's a very heartwarming and cute movie that is safe for the family. Some of the dialogue will fly over kids heads but i'm sure they will walk out saying how cute the dog was or want their own Marley. But current or former diog owners will completely relate to the story and end up falling in love with the "world's worst dog".

Rodney at the Rose

On Saturday I decided to finally head up to Denver and go see Rodney Atkins at the Grizzly Rose. This was technically my first time at the Rose and I was very impressed on how HUGE it was. I am used to places where you don't have room to move during a concert and where the beer is way over priced on concert nights. I didn't see that as the case at the Rose..unless you were in the pit (aka the dancefloor). As for the drinks they were what you would pay anywhere else...I think I had a Red Bull and a Coors Light and it was 5 something...not bad!

But moving on to the show. I have seen Rodney before and knew what to expect but frankly he gets better with each show. The guy really knows to rev up a crowd with his music. I think he sang only like 2 slow songs and the rest were upbeat obviously to keep the crowd going. His band was flawless and was his vocals. If he comes back to any venue you need to go for two reasons 1. You will ahve a good time 2. Good show and worth the $20 or so bucks to get in.

Doggone It!

Last night Jim West and I went to the first of two "Hotel For Dogs" movie premieres at Tinseltown. I had a zero expectation of this movie going into it. After all kids movies are not exactly my thing and the trailer didn't really hit me as "must see movie".

Now, if you have tickets for the Thursday night show I can guarantee one thing your kids are going to love it! It's a cute romp featuring just about every breed of dog imaginable. It features two foster kids that stumble on a condemned hotel that houses a few dogs. Wanting to care for them as best they can they construct feeding machines, door knocking and doorbell devices to keep the dogs occupied, and a very nice waste disposal unit...if you catch my drift. As the dogs add into the mix so do the caretakers as if I remember correctly 5 kids keep this place afloat without anyone knowing. If you are a "Friends" tv show fan watch for a nice supporting role by Lisa "Phoebe" Kudrow which seems to be been written for her.

Now don't go expecting the best in writing and cinematic perfection. If you want that then i'm sure you will want to see "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood. But if you want a movie that you can take the whole family too without having to worry about language and content then this movie is absolutley perfect! I don't think I heard one bad word in the entire movie. It is good family entertainment!

Girl Scout cookies go on sale starting today, so don't be surprised if a chipper girl in uniform shows up at your door or office to sell you a box of Americana at $3.25 a pop.

Booth sales at grocery stores and other locations begin Feb. 13.

"We are so excited," said local Girl Scout mother and leader Laura Clark. "Some people think the girls dread this time of year, but we love it." Her daughters, 10 and 6, concur; the older girl sold more than 1,000 boxes last year to earn the money for horse camp.

The Girl Scouts of Colorado raised $2 million in cookie sales in 2008, and with contributions down this year they're relying even more heavily on America's sweet tooth, Clark said.

The Girl Scouts of Colorado also sent 100,000 boxes of cookies to soldiers overseas and community organizations in 2008 - an option if you don't want to be tempted. Just buy the cookies from the girls; they take care of the shipping on your behalf.

For those who plan to indulge this year, there's something to know: There's a new baker in town.

After nearly a century on their own, the Girl Scouts of the Pikes Peak region were folded into the statewide organization this past year. The upshot for the hungry masses is that the cookies in Colorado Springs are now made by Little Brownie Bakers instead of ABC/Interbake Foods, the only two bakers authorized to create this national icon.

Appearance: The former cookies are lighter in color with a dimpled texture, while the new ones are darker and smoother.

Topless Coffee Shop Proposed for Small Maine Town

VASSALBORO, Maine - A one-time motel in a small central Maine town could soon be offering an eye-opening way to start the day -- topless coffee shop waitresses. The Vassalboro Planning Board on Tuesday will consider a business permit request for a topless coffee shop on busy Route 3.

The one-story building has also been the home to several other business ventures, most recently Mac Daddy's Pub at the Fat Cat Grille, which closed three or four years ago.
Neighbors have mixed opinions. Some say Vassalboro is a rural town and that a topless coffee shop would bring the wrong crowd. But others say they'd like to see a business make a go of it there.

Donald Crabtree of Ellsworth, who has applied for the business permit, told the Kennebec Journal that he didn't want to discuss his plan until after the planning board meets.

One Wild Year....and it's only DAY 6

WOW, what a year so far and a wierd one at that. Is it only me or does it seem like the wierdos waited until the New Year to bring out their best of stuff. A few things that I have observed thus far is....

1. Staurt Smalley in the US Senate? Ok, when Al Franken from Saturday Night Live fame announced a run for the Minnesota Senate I thought yeah right like he's going to get elected...and wouldn't you know right after the New Year he was announced as the Senate elect after a hotly contested race with what seemed like 10 recounts. But get this he won by like 200 total votes. I am just waiting to see if he pulls some of his impressions and comedic rhetoric on the floor....I guess we wait and see!

2. Kathy Griffin dropping the D*** bomb on live TV - Only maybe five seconds into the New Year Kathy Griffin was being heckled by a guy in Times Square with Anderson Cooper and being who she is...she let it go without hesitation. There is now talk that she going to get fined for expilicit language on a cable show....but that's who she is.

3. Hyundai's are now returnable? - It was announced recently that if you bought a Hyundai with a year that under the new Hyundai Assurance plan, if you buy or lease a new Hyundai and lose your job within a year, you can take the car back without credit hassles. Now it all depends on what the car is worth at the time, you may not even owe another dime. Is this just odd to me?

The Year That Was

While in my food coma yesterday afternoon my father-in-law and I were flipping through channels and came across one of the news networks doing a retrospect of the year that was. As we sit there attempting to absorb what we were watching. I came across one major thing that was wrong. Where were the positive things that happened this year? They covered all of the negative basics like the economic crisis, the federal bank/car maker/insurance company/everyone but the people that need it in the middle class bailout, gas prices going up to record levels, stores going bankrupt or closing, the war in Iraq, the missing kid stories, the reviews of the movie "The Love Guru" etc. What about the positive things like a history making event like Barrack Obama being the first minority to win the office of President?, Michael Phelps at the Olympics winning 8 gold medals, The world focusing on a more GREEN effort, OJ finally getting convicted, Paris Hilton went away, gas prices returning to a manageable level, the return of a sane and hot Britney Spears...etc.

I know the year may have been a down year for everyone but still lets look at the positive and go into 2009 on a high note. You would think with the holidays upon us that this news network would try to give us something up lifting instead of the boring negative drab. Am I the only one who is thinking this way?

8 Seconds on a Reindeer?

Christmas is rapidly approaching and if you are anything like me, then you are going to look for excuses to get away from the relatives over the holiday. In my random searches of the internet I came across a website that kept my occupied for a good half hour plus. It's http://www.bernstein-reindeer.com/. You have to check it out as it is basically a reindeer PBR. With the elves as the riders, nutcrackers as the commentators, and you guessed it Reindeer as the raging bucking bulls. It's an absolutely priceless game!

Give it a shot. Definitely worth a laugh or a little frustration.

I heard this this the other morning while I was getting ready for work...and frankly it disturbed me a tad. Michael Jackson's famed sequined glittery glove is going up on the auction block to the highest bidder. You know THE GLOVE!!!! First Neverland got sold to a private buyer...now this! How broke do you have to be to give something like that up. Now I understand you either love Jacko or really hate him and i'm not saying I like him or agree with his past...but come on! The famed "glove" belongs in either the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame or Smithsonian and not in someones safe deposit box or private collection. That's the "glove" that helped define the 80's pop music scene and I personally think it's a shame that he would part with a piece of his legacy even if the money is going to charity. What's next his nose or a can of Jesus Juice?

While stuffing my face with food on Thanksgiving and keeping my head down trying to avoid questions from my in-laws, the subject of Egg nog comes up. Egg Nog is one of my favorite treats over the holidays so of course I perk up. One of our family guests heard on the news that one 16 ounce glass of the famed NOG is the equivelent of a double quarter pounder from McDonalds. OH DEAR!!!! Say it aint so!

So what I did this morning while that still laying heavy on my mind and in my arteries I looked it up and well....it's pretty darn close. Check it out for yourself as disturbing as it may be for all of us that love the all mighty NOG!

Kick him in the WHAT?

Over the weekend I was scanning our vast 5 channel selection in the studio and came across a jewel of a lost 80's classic, "The Monster Squad". Since I haven't seen this movie in probably 15 years or more it was quite amusing and yes I still knew alot of the dialogue. It's about a group of teenagers who try to stop monsters from invading the modern world (or the 80's). Think monster movie meets the kids of the Goonies. And when I say monsters I mean the classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Sea Creature thing. So with that being said think about if they did invade the modern world can you see Dracula running the blood bank? The Mummy working at the Hospital? The Sea Creature as a main attraction at Sea World? or the Wolfman working at a dog pound? and Frank at a daycare taking care of kids? Interesting thought right? .......Wait I got distracted now back to the movie.

The Monster Squad has to stop these creatures from taking over modern civilization by offering up (catch this) a virgin to read an ancioent chant of sorts from the days of Van Helsing..Now if you are looking for any serious content here then you might want to look somewhere else. This movie is lame to the core but funny and entertaining and fairly safe for the family with exception to some language. So if you time to kill and want to relive those cherish moments of the 80's with a lost classic and smile. Then go NETFLIX it and give me your thoughts.

The Good, The Bad, and The Chihuahua

This last weekend my wife and broke down and got a baby sitter throughout the weekend and saw four (yes FOUR) different movies. Granted one was my overall choice but sometimes in a marriage you have to give and take.

1. Secret Life of Bees - I fought this one hard when she said that she wanted to see it. I knew nothing about it other than it was a "chick flick" with Queen Latifah. Do I really need to say more about it? But, that aside...it was a little slow at first but picked up quite nicely. And to be honest I actually quite enjoyed it. And now my wife has handed me the book as she says it was better than the movie. So what i get for caving is a homework assignment with a book report to follow i'm sure. :-). But seriously, if you want a good very well made movie go see this one. I was quite impressed.

2. Beverly Hills Chihuahua - Really? Again not my choice....how was the funding for this movie ever approved? And why would decent actors actually star or lend their voices to it? This was your typical stupid family fare which as a parent you will be forced to see with your kids. Yes, it's entertaining and funny in parts...but overly stupid.

3. High School Musical 3 - Yes, after the first two you would think I would have to check my man card at the door but after this one...yep it's gone. Ok, not knowing the storyline of the other two. I think I kept up nicely. Yes, it's hokey, corny, has a case of over cheese, and needs to fix a case of musical monotony. But overall its decent..much better than Beverly Hills Chihuahua...yeah i said it!

4. Saw 5 - Now, here we go with my man card back in my pocket with my choice of a movie! I was slightly disappointed with number 4 so I had very low expectations going in. But remarkably the series is slightly redeemed with this installment. I guess you could say they wrapped things up in a nice package to continue the franchise without Tobin Bell who plays the original Jigsaw. If you like the series you will enjoy it..And i'm sure you can count on one next year, and the next, and the next, and the next.........

Political Madness!

Is it just me or can the November elections not happen fast enough. If I have to hear another newscast or commercial with the any of the names of Obama, Palin, McCain, Biden, or Schaeffer, I think I am going to hurt someone. It seems like this whole thing has been going on for several years and that there is no end in site. I am a political junkie but I think 18-24 months of non stop Presidential coverage is tad much even for me. What are the news organizations going to talk about after all this madness is over?

And by the way if you haven't already, make sure and make your plans and VOTE on November 4th! It doesn't matter to me what your political views are. Just that you make your voice heard and change the course of the country in the direction that you feel that it should go. The only thing that I ask is that don't be sold on what you think is right, what you heard, what you saw on a commercial, or what you read in an email...be informed on what you know is right and look at the FACTS! Voting is a right we have as citizens and if you don't vote you can't complain! So there! :-) And now i'm off my soapbox.

Weird Feeling

I have heard other people say that you just a weird feeling when your kid(s) aren't home. And this weekend was a prime example of that. My wife and I handed "the boy" off to my parents on Friday night for a nice weekend at home alone.

So there we were at home on Friday night both looking at each other like shouldn't we be doing something like getting bottles ready, soothing him to sleep, or changing those nasty little packages that he like to leave us. It was like we were both having brain farts for what to do. We were out of the nightly routine. Then continuously during the night both of us would perk up and look in the cradle to see if he was there, due that it was entirely too quiet around the house without the semi cry of the "little man".

On Sunday, we picked him up from Grandmas house and he seemed very content which soothed both of us. The only thing is i'm sure my parents drugged him like they did with me when i was that age....ok not all the time and yes I know it explains alot. :-)

Even with all of his crying and crapping it was still good to have him home. Now we have back the giggling, the smiling, and ever so present drooling...wait the drooling was me (sorry about that). Now don't get me wrong it was nice to have the weekend with Wife Brandi but it just wasn't fully complete without "the boy".

The only one not happy to see him back home was our dog. Because now her sleep schedule is back to sporadic at best. You should see the dirty looks when he wakes her up in the middle of the night. Damn, if looks could kill!

The Lost 80s Classic

The world's best and worst movie riding the Animal House wave of the early 80's was a little piece of work called Midnight Madness. I like to call it that because that was the title.

The plot is simple to follow A scavenger hunt across LA by 5 (why five?) teams, each wearing the same colored sweatshirts, driving vehicles with corresponding colors. And each team going to different LA landmarks with clues to send them to another location. The movie had Stephen Furst of A.H. fame, Eddie Deezen (Eugene from Grease), David Naughton (American Werewolf in London. Awesome.) and a very young, snotty pre-Family Ties Michael J. Fox. It's an extremely lame but very funny flick.

HBO used to play the crap out of it back in the day, and now you don't even see it anywhere on TV I had to buy it from a movie club for a horrendous price. Sometimes I get mad at cable for forgetting about me, and sometimes I feel sad and neglected like I did when my parents had cable babysit me when they were out at swinger parties....yeah I said it!
